In ancient Corfu, Faiakes (the Corfu people) were merchants who traded food olive oil and wine at the ports of the island. As Island people they had great naval skills. Legend has it that Poseidon (god of the sea) gave them this knowledge and a 5 ships called “APIDALOS NAFS”. That ship had no oars and no rudder navigate only by mind and Corfu sailors used to bring Odysseus home to Ithaca. In the Centre of the main port of Corfu town there is a sculpture of APIDALOS NAFS.
